Toys for All Abilities

  • News

On Wednesday, November 19, Replay for Kids and the Medina County Board of DD teamed up to host an Adapted Toy Giveaway for families, caregivers, educators, and therapists who work with children with disabilities.

During the event, parents, caregivers, teachers and therapists were invited to attend and pick up adapted toys designed to meet the unique needs of children with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities. About 400 adapted toys were handed out – free of charge thanks to the sponsorship of Mellion Orthodontics – along with switches which are designed to help children use the toys in ways that match their abilities. The toy giveaway is part of both organizations’ ongoing missions to make play more inclusive and accessible for all children, regardless of abilities.

“Play is such an important part of childhood development, but too many kids with disabilities don’t have access to toys they can use,” says Stacey Maleckar, MCBDD Superintendent. “We are so thankful to RePlay for Kids for this giveaway because it helps bridge that gap and ensures every child can experience the joy and learning that comes from play.”

The giveaway held at the Medina County Board of DD, is one of several offered by RePlay for Kids throughout Northeast Ohio. RePlay is always looking for battery-operated toys and volunteers to help make sure kids have toys that meet their needs. For more information or to volunteer, visit replayforkids.org.
