The Medina County Board of DD is happy to offer the initial certification course for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training to Independent Providers in Medina County. In addition, the MCBDD offers First Aid/CPR/AED recertification to Agency Providers and Independent Providers. First Aid/CPR training is crucial when providing services, and puts the health and safety needs of the individual served at the forefront. Eligibility

Direct Support Professionals and other direct service staff at provider agencies and Independent Providers actively serving individuals in Medina County are eligible to participate in the Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course.

Initial Certification Classes

For Independent Providers who do not currently hold a valid certification through American Red Cross.

Those seeking certification to become an Independent Provider of DD waiver services to Medina County Board eligible individuals must send a request email to fa-cpr@mcbdd.org with the following information:

  • First name, last name, valid email address, and phone number of the person seeking First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Indicate that you are in the process of becoming an Independent Provider, and include the information stating the Medina County Board of DD staff that you’re working with and/or the individual(s) you intend to become a provider for

Upon receiving the request email, MCBDD staff will enroll the provider in the American Red Cross system.

  • Provider will then need to complete the online self-study portion of the class.
  • Following the completion of the online portion of the training, providers will need to email fa-cpr@mcbdd.org to indicate that they have completed the online portion.
  • Providers will need to schedule the in-person skills session, which will be completed at the MCBDD Achievement Center (4691 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH). All providers attending an in-person skills session will be required to perform at least one full cycle of CPR on the practice mannequin on the floor in order to be eligible for certification.
  • Independent Providers will have 45 days to complete both the online portion and the in-person skills portion of the course. After 45 days, the course will be canceled.

Renewal Certification Classes

For both Agency and Independent Providers who currently hold a valid certification through the American Red Cross and are approaching their expiration date.

Provider agencies or current Independent Providers of DD waiver services to Medina County Board eligible individuals must send a request email to fa-cpr@mcbdd.org with the following information:

  • First name, last name, valid email address, and phone number of the person seeking a First Aid/CPR/AED renewal.
  • Name of the provider agency or indicate that you are an Independent Provider. MCBDD staff may follow up to request a copy of current certification if we cannot locate via the information provided.

Upon receiving the request email, MCBDD staff will follow up with scheduling information for available classes.

All skills sessions will be completed at the Medina County Board of DD Achievement Center (4691 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH 44256). All providers attending an in-person skills session will be required to perform at least one full cycle of CPR on the practice mannequin on the floor in order to be eligible for recertification.

Reminders

In-person skills sessions are scheduled two times per month. Those seeking a renewal certification should plan ahead well in advance (at least 45 days) of their certification expiration date in order to renew in a timely manner. We are unable to provide a renewal course for a certification that is past 30 days of its expiration. In order to remain in compliance, please be mindful of the availability of classes as you are planning for a renewal class for yourself or your staff.

If agency providers would like to continue to use the MCBDD to renew staff certifications, please ensure that staff remain current in their certification through American Red Cross as we are only able to renew American Red Cross certifications. Providers may choose to be First Aid/CPR certified through any organization, but the class must contain an in-person skills component. Please refer to OAC 5123-2-08 or 5123-2-09 Appendix A.
