We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a rewarding, fulfilling, and meaningful life. Having a developmental disability does not diminish the desire or right to pursue dreams, it simply makes the journey more challenging. As part of those dreams, we understand the importance of social interaction and recreational opportunities. That is why we offer a wide range of enjoyable activities that enable people to interact in the community. These social and recreational activities allow individuals to learn important social skills while making friends and having fun.

 

Classes

We know that individuals with special needs can achieve great things when given the right learning environments. They will rise to higher levels of success when provided with meaningful participation in an educational setting that gives specifically designed instruction and support.Through our class offerings, we work hard to promote high quality educational experiences for all individuals with disabilities. Our classes vary and are based on annual interest surveys. Registration is required for all classes.   • Painting Class - develop your imagination by learning various techniques of painting
  • Self Determination - learn effective ways to express how you feel about your life
  • Low Impact Exercise - get fit with light stretching and Pilates
  • Martial Arts - a great way to stay fit and learn some valuable skills
  • Music Class - listen to some tunes and learn how to make some of your own
  • Manners Matter - brush up on table manners and conversation skills
  • Sign Language - basic sign language skills for everyday use
  • Computer Skills - master basic computer skills and learn to find information on the internet
  • Cooking Class - learn how to cook healthy snacks and meals
  • Craft Class - learn different techinques to make crafty projects to take home
 

Clubs

Exploring new interests is something every person likes to do, That is why we offer a wide range of clubs for individuals who are interested in making new friends and expanding their social horizons. Each club provides chances to achieve personal goals with the help of friends with shared interests. Registration is required for all clubs.      Aktion Club- as part of the Kiwanis Club, members participate in various civic volunteer opportunities
     People First - discuss current issues that deal with the rights of individuals with disabilities
     Just the Guys Club - talk with "the guys" about sports, cars and other hobbies and interests
     Hiking Club - explore local parks and learn about them while getting exercise
     Girl Talk - chat with your girlfriends about all the latest news
     Board Silly - play an assortment of board games and learn valuable skills
     Karaoke - sing your favorite tunes or just dance to the music
     Reading Club - develop better listening and interpersonal skills as staff read to participants

 

Closing Time

We offer "after hours" leisure activities for those individuals who are hard at work during the day. Closing Time outings appeal to a wide range of interests and areas and you can attend just one or all the offerings. We have had exciting opportunities to attend Browns training camp, an Akron Aeros game, cruises on the Portage Lakes, Disney on Ice, the circus, restaurants, Bingo and much more. Outings are generally planned for weekday evenings and participants are responsible for admission fees and transportation arrangements. Special Olympics

Photo of Boys in the Medina County Special Olympics ProgramSpecial Olympics Medina County provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Through successful experiences in sports, each athlete gains confidence and builds a postitive self-image which carries over into home, work and community. This world-renowed organization offers many chances for involvement and provides each individual with the coaching and support they need to succeed.
