The deadline for each provider-vendor combination to complete the alternate EVV system certification process has been extended to September 1, 2020 in recognition of challenges that may have been presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the alternate system demonstration requirement and the Sandata process validating the transmission of EVV data to the aggregator must be completed successfully before a system is certified. Providers who have not completed the certification process by September 1, 2020 may be required to transition to the Sandata system until their alternative system is fully certified.

What is EVV?

Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) is an electronic system that verifies key information about the services provided. In accordance with the 21st Century Cures Act, the system implemented by the Ohio Department of Medicaid will record the date of the service, the time the service started and ended, the individual receiving the service, the person providing the service and the location of the service. Both agencies and non-agency providers are impacted by EVV. EVV for Phase 1 services began on January 8, 2018. As of August 5, 2019, all providers who are providing Phase 2 EVV-eligible services must be using EVV. Phase 3 of the Ohio Medicaid EVV Initiative will be fully implemented on January 1, 2021. How Do I Complete My Training?

Training webinars and self-paced training will begin on October 5, 2020. The Ohio Department of Medicaid has contracted with Sandata Technologies LLC to deliver Ohio’s EVV system and trainings. Training is completed via the Sandata EVV System. Please note that agency and non-agency providers have separate trainings, so be sure to sign up for the training that applies to you. To sign up for the training, you must have your ODM issued Provider Medicaid ID.
