Inclement Weather Information



The Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities fully understands the strain agency closings place on families. Finding alternative care for unplanned situations can be difficult. We want to keep our programs open whenever possible, while also protecting the health and safety of the individuals we serve.

Closing Announcements

The following two options will be used to identify what type of services will be offered during inclement weather conditions or other emergencies.
 

AGENCY OPEN
All programs are open and operating as normal and transportation will be provided as usual. Students and individuals always have the option of not attending if there is concern about health and safety. 
 

WINDFALL PRESCHOOL STUDENTS:
If your child attends Windfall Preschool and your home school district is…

a) Closed for a calamity day, your student should not report to Windfall Preschool.
b) Operating on a 2-hour delay, your student should not report to Windfall Preschool.


WINDFALL SCHOOL-AGE STUDENTS:
If your child attends Windfall School and your home school district is…

aClosed for a calamity day, your student should not report to Windfall School.
b) Operating on a 2-hour delay, your student should follow the 2-hour delay in reporting to Windfall School.
 

AGENCY CLOSED
All MCBDD programs are closed and individuals are not to attend. There will be no MCBDD transportation available.
This typically will happen when there is a Level 3 Emergency or if at least four Medina County schools districts are closed due to road conditions, including one city system such as Medina, Brunswick, or Wadsworth.
*Although we take into account many different factors, the Superintendent retains the right to make the final decision.


 

MEETINGS AND APPOINTMENTS: 
If you have a scheduled meeting with one of our staff, they will contact you to either confirm your meeting or to reschedule, if necessary.

a) Open and the MCBDD is closed, your student should not report to Windfall Preschool. 
b) Closed for a calamity day, your student should not report to Windfall Preschool.
c) Operating on a 2-hour delay, your student should not report to Windfall Preschool.


WINDFALL SCHOOL-AGE STUDENTS:
If your child attends Windfall School and your home school district is…

a) Open and the MCBDD is closed, your student should not report to Windfall School
b) Closed for a calamity day, your student should not report to Windfall School.
c) Operating on a 2-hour delay, your student should follow the 2-hour delay in reporting to Windfall School.


INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO USE PRIVATE SERVICE PROVIDERS: 
If you use a private provider for any of your services, including transportation, please make sure you understand their calamity day procedures and how and when they will provide services on days the MCBDD is closed for inclement weather.

INDIVIDUALS WHO WORK IN THE COMMUNITY: 
Any adult individual who has a job in the community would be expected to make arrangements (including alternate transportation) to attend their community jobs unless otherwise notified, or other arrangements are made between the individual and his/her employer.

 

 

Notification Methods

Any information about agency closures, emergencies or other important information and announcements will be made through the following methods:
 

Phone Alert System
In the event that we need to make an important announcement, our Phone Alert system will use our client database to generate an automated phone message. The phone call you receive from this system will give the status of the agency and any other information you may need to know in case of an emergency.

Radio and Television
Announcements are sent to the local radio and television stations and will indicate our agency's status.
 

Website
Changes in the agency's status will be posted on the front page of our website and on our agency calendar as soon as possible.
 

Email
Email messages are sent to those individuals who have signed up for our email update service. To sign-up for this service, please click here.
