Board Members
The Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities is comprised of seven volunteer members who are appointed by the Medina County Commissioners or a Medina County Probate Judge. Board members have various professional backgrounds and include community leaders and family members of individuals with disabilities. Agency business, policy, budgets, and program planning are discussed during Board meetings. Meetings are typically held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:00 pm. The community is always welcome and encouraged to attend.
AL BELSOLE
Al brings extensive business experience that supports the management team and staff at MCBDD. Al is a graduate of Lorain County Community College and Bowling Green State University. Al retired from Bridgestone/Firestone after 35 years of service, holding several management positions with the last being Region Manager of dealer programs. Al spent two years enlisted in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska.
In addition to being a board member for MCBDD, Al is part owner and treasurer of the Board of Directors for Willoughby Brewing Company; volunteer for Medina County Red Cross disaster service and a member of the Cleveland Clinic Patient Panel.
Al has been married to his wife, Sandra, for 42 years. Al is the father of three grown sons Brian, Craig and Brent and has four grandchildren. Al is a three-time cancer survivor and enjoys spending time with his family, bike riding, playing tennis and participating in most outdoor sports.

MICHELLE CONNORS, Secretary
Michelle has been a dedicated board member since 2006 and brings and understanding of the dedication it takes to guide MCBDD each day. Michelle is a graduate of John Carrol University where she earned a bachelor of arts in communications.
Michelle had career experience in television, marketing, education and government and currently assists a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual.
Michelle has been married to her husband, Guy, for 26 years. Michelle is the mother of three children. Her youngest child received early intervention services and attended Windfall School.

KENT DAUGHERTY, Vice President
Kent brings a unique understanding of the medical needs of our consumers. Kent is a graduate of Kent State University where he received his bachelors in science in speech pathology and audiology. He also holds an MBA from Ashland University.
Kent retired from Westfield Ins after 36 years of service holding several senior executive positions, most recently as Senior Executive of P & C Marketing and Senior Executive of Strategic Relationships.
In addition to serving as a board member for MCBDD, Kent is currently a Director on the Medina Hospital Board; past chairman of the Medina Hospital Foundation Board and the Society for Handicapped Citizens of Medina County (SHC, the ARC) Board of Trustees; past board member of IIABA (Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America) InVEST Board, a national educational nonprofit. He was also active in the United Way and is an active member of United Church of Christ, Congregational and continues to serve as a volunteer for the Special Olympics
Kent resides in Medina with his wife of 42 years, Judy.

JULIE BOYLE, President
Julie brings an extensive legal background to the board. Julie is a graduate of Kent State University where she earned a bachelor’s in special education and master’s in education. Julie also has a Juris Doctorate from Cleveland Marshall College of Law.
Julie spent her early career in education, teaching special education at the elementary, high school and college levels. After passing the Ohio bar exam in 2000, she worked as a criminal prosecutor for The City of Cleveland. She is currently working as an attorney in private practice.
Julie has a brother that has special needs who inspired her desire to teach and work within the special education field. She was a volunteer and coach for Special Olympics in Stark County and was active with their Board of Developmental Disabilities for many years.
In addition to being a board member for MCBDD, Julie has served on a number of non-profit boards.
Julie was born and raised in Canton and has lived her entire life in Northeast Ohio. Julie has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 14 years and is the mother of Grace, age ten and Jeffrey, age six. She currently resides in Hinckley and enjoys outdoor activities, knitting, reading and spending time with her family.

JAY MITZEL
Jay has been a dedicated board member since 2006 and brings an extensive information systems and marketing background to the board. Jay is a graduate of The University of Akron where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. He also holds an MBA from Ashland University.
Jay has many years of experience in Supply Chain, Resource and Materials Management. He is currently the Executive Director of Supply Chain Services for Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio.
In addition to being a board member for MCBDD, Jay serves on the Advisory Committee for Project Search and the Autism Society of Ohio, is Board President of Medina Creative Housing, Inc. and is on the Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron's Parent Advisory Committee.

SUE BARNES BROWN
Sue brings a positive attitude and enthusiasm to her duties as a board member. Sue is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University where she received her bachelor of science in nursing. She has also completed post-graduate courses at the University of Akron in school health, health administration and management.
Sue retired from the Medina County Achievement Center at MCBDD in July 2006 where she served as school and workshop nurse, Director of Ancillary Services, and Director of Nursing. Her experience includes public health nursing, pediatric nursing and general medical surgical nursing.
In addition to serving as a board member for MCBDD, Sue serves as a treasurer and volunteer at her church; Girl Scout leader; Friends of the County Home and Hospice volunteer and continues to serve as a volunteer for the Special Olympics.
Sue has been a Medina County resident for more than 40 years. She is a mother of four and grandmother of 15.
